There are few contra-indications. They relate mostly to allergies and are listed to avoid putting the patient at risk.

- Allergy to cold (1 case in 1 million)
- Raynaud's syndrome
- Skin sensitivity
- Cryoglobulinaemia
- Highly distended varicose veins
